Anyone watching Senator Graham questioning Judge Sonia Sotomayer and the assumptions in his question on Judge Sotomayor’s knowledge of the law today should be appalled. When watching it in the context of the questioning of other male and white Supreme Court judges the tone and condescension of his questioning illustrates the reason many minorities believe that no matter how hard they work and what level they attain attempts are made to undermine, diminish, and disrespect. The assumption that a minority judge is more predisposed to have solely their life experiences used in their judging as opposed to a white judge does not hold up to scrutiny giving this country’s history.
