Church Asks for Nearly $1 Mil in 48 Hours – Religious Greed Knows No Bounds #p2 #religion

Pastor Warren should be ashamed to request $900,000 from his congregation. His church has afforded him a platform to become extremely wealthy. $900,000 is a drop in the bucket for him and as such in the spirit of giving he should have used his own money giving the shortfall. I am sure the shortfall can be attributed to the down economy which because of his wealth status, he was not affected. Like all the overpaid executives, he is so use to free loading he does not see how selfish this looks. The clock is ticking for members of pastor Rick Warren's California megachurch after the evangelical leader posted an "urgent" letter on his Web site Wednesday calling on congregants to donate a total of $900,000 before the New Year to make up for a massive holiday giving deficit.   "This is an urgent letter unlike any I've written in 30 years," the blog post said. "I have some thrilling news to share with you below but first some seriously bad news." Warren said that … [Read more...]

Eight GOP Senators Opposed Bill That Funded Airport Screening And Explosive Detection #p2 #politics

If Democrats did this they would be accused by the GOP of being traitors. I believe all Americans, Democrats or Republicans love this country. It is unfortunate the GOP uses incidents of terrorism to attempt to question others strength, resolve, or patriotism. It is important that article like these are viewed to neutralize such hypocritical assertions. Some of the same Republican lawmakers currently criticizing the President for softness on terrorism voted back in July 2007 against legislation that, among other reforms, provided $250 million for airport screening and explosive detection equipment. The Improving America's Security Act of 2007 was a relatively non-controversial measure that effectively implemented several un-acted-upon recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. Eighty-five Senators voted in favor of the bill's passage. Seven missed the vote (several of whom were on the campaign trail, including Barack Obama, John McCain and Chris Dodd). Eight Republican Senators, however, voted … [Read more...]

HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff Blasts Cheney For Latest Attack On Obama #p2 #politics

Cheney has no shame. He along with Bush blew our security out the door, destroyed our economy and he has the nerve to comment on current policy? HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff appeared on MSNBC's The Ed Show tonight to discuss how progressives should respond to false right wing attacks on President Obama that politicize security issues. Sekoff told Schultz that the Left needs to hit back hard with the facts. Singling out Dick Cheney for his particularly harsh, and false, attacks on Obama in the wake of the failed Detroit plane bombing, Sekoff wondered why anyone even listens to Cheney when he "has absolutely no credibility on the issue... Getting lectured on terrorism by Dick Cheney is like getting lectured on parenting by Jon & Kate or fidelity by Tiger Woods." Huff TV: HuffPost Editor Roy Sekoff Blasts Cheney For Latest Attack On Obama (VIDEO) … [Read more...]

‘Traditional marriage’ defender Rove mocked for getting divorced #p2 #politics

We should not be surprised. The Clintons worked through their problems as they vowed to in “till death do us part” while the moral policemen of the GOP continue to change their models continuously. Should we call this the hypocrisy hit parade? No one should revel in the demise of someone’s marriage. However that these morally deficient people constantly try to dictate the lifestyles of gays and others is a travesty. As humans we are flawed and the hypocrisy of these little men, does little to foment moral growth. By Daniel Tencer Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 -- 2:44 pm The progressive blogosphere is having a good laugh at self-professed "traditional marriage" defender Karl Rove, after a Texas court granted the former Bush White House political mastermind his second divorce. The man referred to as "Bush's brain" ended his 24-year marriage to Darby Rove last week, said Dana Perino, the former Bush press secretary and now, apparently, the "family spokeswoman" for the … [Read more...]

You Know You’re A Conservative When… #p2 #politics

FUNNY. I love my Conservative friends and this is for their constant liberal mailings this week .  So smile please.   By Ken Kupchik Since almost no one is willing to identify with the GOP these days, it can be difficult to diagnose conservatism. Here are some tips to help determine if you are a conservative: 10) You refused to share your toys in kindergarten, saying it would put you on a dangerous path to socialism. 9) You get angry when there are choices for languages on an automated call because you still don't have a good grasp on English. 8) You hate those "elite Hollywood liberals" but refuse to cancel your Netflix account. 7) You go to tea bagger rallies because you have no job thanks to the recession that "started under Obama." 6) You watch Fox News, but unlike most people actually take it seriously. 5) You become absolutely livid about imaginary tax increases. 4) You are against wasteful programs like Medicare, but also against cutting waste … [Read more...]

Poll names Pelosi, congressional Republicans ‘losers’ #p2 #politics

Pelosi gets a bad rap caused by effective propaganda on the right. This is probably one of our strongest speakers as she is effective and gets bills passed mostly as wanted. It is a pity that the Senate is ineffective! From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney   Pelosi has been named a 2009 loser in a new poll. (CNN) – Americans don't believe House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Congressional Republicans had a particularly good 2009: Both were labeled "losers" in a just-released Gallup poll. According to the new poll, 50 percent of those surveyed thought Pelosi is among the "losers" of the year while 52 percent said the same for Republicans in Congress. Conversely, only 39 percent think Pelosi is a "winner" while 38 percent gave positive marks to GOP members of congress. As for other political losers of the year, 61 percent identified South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson - who earned fame after his "You Lie!" outburst at President Obama - and 63 … [Read more...]

GOP Lawmakers Flip Flop On Costly Health Plans: #p2 #hcr #politics

Why can’t Democrats learn how use these types of inconsistencies to hit home the hypocrisy of the GOP? WASHINGTON — Democrats are troubled by the inconsistency of Republican lawmakers who approved a major Medicare expansion six years ago that has added tens of billions of dollars to federal deficits, but oppose current health overhaul plans. All current GOP senators, including the 24 who voted for the 2003 Medicare expansion, oppose the health care bill that's backed by President Barack Obama and most congressional Democrats. The Democrats claim that their plan moving through Congress now will pay for itself with higher taxes and spending cuts and they cite the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office for support. By contrast, when Republicans controlled the House, Senate and White House in 2003, they overcame Democratic opposition to add a deficit-financed prescription drug benefit to Medicare. The program will cost a half-trillion dollars over 10 years, or more by some estimates. With no new … [Read more...]

Obama: A historic moment #p2 #hcr #politics

But the work is just beginning! Although it's Christmas Eve, I wanted to share some exciting news: The Senate just passed a historic health reform bill. In all the back and forth, it's easy to lose sight of what this incredible breakthrough really means. But consider this: This Christmas, there are millions of Americans without health insurance who risk losing everything if they get sick. There are mothers and fathers who wonder how they'll provide for their children because an illness has wiped out their savings. There are small business owners who worry that they'll have to lay off a long-time employee because the cost of insurance is rapidly rising. If we finish the job, all this can change. We will have beaten back the special interests who have for so long perpetuated the status quo. We will have enacted the most important piece of social policy since the Social Security Act in the 1930s, and the most important health reform since Medicare … [Read more...]

Conservative Policies Always Create Negative Outcome On Americans #hcr #p2 #politics

Those opposing healthcare on conservative grounds should note that since the Great Depression every time conservative policies have been instituted, the country has suffered immensely. As I have stated on many of my blogs here, here, and elsewhere including graphs and charts that mimicked the economic trends during the effecting of conservative policies, it has always created a negative outcome on average Americans. Had we continued our full Keynesian policies during the Great Depression, it would not have taken WWII to get out as WWI spending was nothing but Keynesian economics on steroids. Had we not had Reagan’s irresponsible tax cuts, increase in defense spending, and other trickle down policies, we would not have had the budget deficits that further transferred wealth to the top 1% via borrowing back the tax cuts given them. Had we not had the deregulation started by Reagan, continued by Clinton, and ran on steroids by Bush through back door privatization including the privatization of war, … [Read more...]

Noo Yawk Roolz! – Paul Krugman Blog #p2 #hcr #politics

My favorite liberal Nobel Peace Prize winning economist is finally happy. Noo Yawk Roolz! I watched the Senate vote this morning, and despite all, it was an inspiring moment. A few random thoughts: 1. It’s petty and silly, but after what seems like a whole adult lifetime in which Central Casting insisted that major politicians be either Southern gentlemen or Midwestern heartland types, it felt good to watch and listen to Chuck Schumer, speaking the language of my roots, at the victory press conference — even with that green tie. Noo Yawk Roolz! 2. More seriously, Jon Chait is right: this is a great achievement. 3. As expected, self-proclaimed centrists can’t bring themselves to say anything nice about a bill that delivers everything they claim to want. Many people have pointed to David Broder’s piece this morning; let me add a historical note. Back in 2006, Broder hailed the Massachusetts health reform as a “major … [Read more...]
