This is going to be a contentious political season. The Right will be a bastion of misinformation with the specific goal of having the working middle class vote against one’s own interest. It is a provable fact that Republic policies beginning with their objection to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is detrimental to most Americans. They have the funds, the control of the mainstream media, and the ability to lie without consequence. Sadly Republicans also have an active and controlled Evangelical base that has dismissed the teachings of Jesus Christ based on their support of Republican policies that are based on Atheist Ayn Rand’s (on religion, on altruism) teachings. The most conservative Supreme Court in history just upheld the health care law as constitutional. This is a victory for American families. It means lower costs, more coverage, and insurance companies can't rip us off anymore. It’s the law. Health care costs are a national crisis. The Court affirmed that our Constitution empowers our elected leaders to create national solutions. They affirmed that the “individual mandate” is a constitutional free rider fee that you don’t pay if you already have health insurance. The Court agreed that the rest of us shouldn’t keep paying for free riders. Right Wing politicians and their corporate funders have wasted taxpayer time and hundreds of millions of dollars attacking the law -- and they’ve vowed to keep doing so. Obamacare is law. The Affordable Care Act is law. I predicted passage with a 6 to 3 vote. We got a victory with a 5 to 4 vote. I was surprised that Justice Kennedy dissented. Chief Justice John Roberts saved the Supreme Court from itself. The United States Supreme Court which had decidedly taken a partisan stance, a Right Wing stance, from appointing George Bush as President in 2000 to allowing unlimited money in politics via the Citizens United case was in danger of becoming just an arm of the Republican Party. If the Supreme Court had not upheld this law, millions of Americans would have been in dire straits. In fact many of our brothers and sisters would have in fact died directly from said result. Now that it is law and officially sanctioned by the Supreme Court it is high time that all of the misinformation, lies, and immoral attacks stop.
