The Republican Party officially presented Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan as their presidential and vice-presidential candidates. So how did that go? If what you were looking for was information that you will be able to use to contrast with whatever the Democrats provide you then you will be sadly disappointed. My guest for the entire show will be Julianna Forlano from the satirical news segment “Absurdity Today”. Absurdity Today! is a satirical news segment that skewers politics and current events without the need to be network appropriate. So Nice We Said It Twice

Many have asked for more information regarding yesterday’s victory. The Republican attempt to suppress the poor, underprivileged, Latino and African-American vote has failed once again.  A federal court struck down the discriminatory Texas voter ID law. The three-judge panel – again including appointees of President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama – ruled unanimously that the law “disproportionately” affects African- Americans and Latinos. It also noted that the law imposes “strict and unforgiving burdens on the poor”. While we celebrate this victory over discrimination against racial minorities and the poor in Texas, it is important to note that this GOP strategy of voter suppression could still work if you do not register and vote! Register now, and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to register now, as the deadline for registration to vote in the November election is quickly approaching. Register here! Then, take advantage of Early … [Read more...]

America Is Not A Business–Mitt Romney’s Experience Would Decimate Middle Class

Mitt Romney and the Republican Party in particular have continuously pushed the tenet that a business man is what America needs to solve its fiscal and economic woes. Anecdotally it seems many Americans buy into this fallacy. America is not a business. The Chairman of America, our President must not look at America as a businessperson would look at his/her company. A businessperson is tasked to maximize profits for his company in order to give him/her and/or the shareholders maximum return on investment. That is a perfectly legitimate goal. It is our capitalist system. Note that that businessperson is not responsible for the overall caring for anything or anyone that prevents that ultimate goal. It is for that reason that if a businessperson makes more profits by outsourcing, they will outsource irrespective of the negative consequences to people and community. It is for that reason that a businessperson would try to rid America of unions in order to depress wages to maximize the profits of a few. … [Read more...]

Revolt of the Rich–An Article Every Middle Class Person Must Read

Here at the Coffee Party we have spent a lot of time discussing on how far the political parties have gone astray. Democrats and republicans whether they attempt to hide it or not comprise a government that is little more than a tool for the super wealthy to become even wealthier.  All at the expense of the American people.  As an active and informed citizen I have noticed how little the wealthy depend on society.  They do not need our infrastructure, schools, police and with the ongoing privatization of our military they may no longer need our military.  The American wealthy have transformed themselves into the American ruling class.  They have little to no interaction with ordinary Americans, they don't need to have it.  All of the mechanisms are in place to siphon money from the masses into their bank accounts with minimal time and effort on their parts.  This article from the American Conservative penned by long term conservative operative Mike Lofgren is a brilliant … [Read more...]

Federal court rejects Republican-backed voter identification requirement for Texas | abc13.com

WASHINGTON (KTRK) -- A federal court has ruled against a Texas law that would require voters to present photo IDs to election officials before being allowed to cast ballots in November. A three-judge panel in Washington ruled Thursday that the law imposes "strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor" and noted that racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty. The decision involves an increasingly contentious political issue: a push, largely by Republican-controlled legislatures and governor's offices, to impose strict identification requirements on voters. The ruling comes in the same week that South Carolina's strict photo ID law is on trial in front of another three-judge panel in the same federal courthouse. A court ruling in the South Carolina case is expected in time for the November election. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued the following statement: "The Supreme Court of the United States has already upheld Voter ID laws as a … [Read more...]

Americans Need A Debate To Decide Course Of Nation Yet Republicans Force Debate On Lies

Watching the Republican Convention is like watching a movie in an alternate state of reality. I could barely contain myself as speaker after speaker continued to lie. While Condoleezza Rice’s speech tried to take a more conciliatory tone, it was full of misinformation. I did a CNN iReport on Condi immediately after her speech to debunk it. The Paul Ryan speech however was the most disconcerting because it was laced with falsehoods and misrepresentations. It was very hard to listen to, but I had to in order to ensure I had valid information to provide our readership (here is the Paul Ryan CNN iReport I did debunking a few his lies). Generally the mainstream media have been hesitant in calling out Republicans as they lie on every one of President Obama’s policies. In fact I hold the mainstream media responsible for the healthcare reform misinformation because they gave the blatant lies promoted by the Republicans credulity by making it a choice in arguments as opposed to stating that their attacks were … [Read more...]

Mitt Romney Flip Flops, Fibs, and Fast Ones–Trust Unearned

This week, Republicans are holding their national convention. It's not just the convention itself that's built on lies -- so too is Romney's campaign for the White House, whether he's invoking the "birther" whopper, double-talking about abortion, or pushing discredited lies about welfare reform and Medicare. See below the messaging for the list of his top flip flops and lies.: We cannot solve our problems if our leaders can't tell the truth. Romney's flip flops, fibs, and fast ones show he's putting extreme ideology ahead of mainstream values and his own self-interest ahead of America's best interests. That's why he keeps flip-flopping and pushing disproven lies on everything from Medicare and welfare reform to the "birther" conspiracy theory. He's even willing to pander and mislead on the values that many Americans hold deeply, including forcing rape victims to bear their rapist's child one moment then claiming they shouldn’t have to the next. Romney is trying to gain power to pull … [Read more...]
