Former New Hampshire GOP Senator Gordon Humphrey wants RNC to act on Donald Trump now.
Former GOP Senator Gordon Humphrey unleashed
Former Republican Senator Gordon Humphrey explains how he wants Donald Trump's candidacy removed from the presidential ticket.
"My first choice would be for the RNC to revoke the nomination which it can do, and could do, and should do, and must do in the national interest," said Gordon Humphrey. "That can be done. And think we have a much greater chance of success in defeating Hillary Clinton with a new nominee than we have in opting for a third candidate."
MSNBC Host Thomas Roberts then asked Humphrey if he reached out to Reince Priebus.
"I have talked to a number of members of the RNC," Humphrey said. "I haven't talked to Mr. Priebus. But I am advocating this in public as I am thanks to your invitation this morning. And hopefully, that would bring about some action. You know what would be helpful Thomas is if former presidents Bush, both of them, and Mitt Romney recusing himself from 2016, would make this public call to Reince Priebus at long last to address the fundamental issue in this campaign. Put aside policy pronouncements. Those are secondary. The primary issue in this campaign is Donald Trump's sanity. And it is time to address that. It's time for the Republican leadership including Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan to demand that Reince Priebus convene the RNC and replace this defective nominee."
While the Humphrey is correct that the candidate could be replaced it is unlikely because Trump's supporters would revolt. The best bet is for Trump ditching his own candidacy. Many speculate that the reason he is making so many 'campaign mistakes' is precisely that he intends to or is looking for an exit strategy.
