BREAKING: Influential Texas Farm Bureau to remain neutral in governor’s race

Perry’s corrupt land grab, betrayal of private property interests catch up to him

HOUSTON — The influential Texas Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Fund today voted to remain neutral in the governor’s race for the first time in the organization’s history.

In the past, the Farm Bureau has always supported Republicans in the governor’s race.

"I’ve been talking with Farm Bureau members all over the state, and they know I’ll be looking out for them as governor, regardless of politics," said Bill White.

"After ten years of career politician Rick Perry, Texans are ready for an alternative. Bill White is committed to private property rights, while Perry’s spent years obsessed with the corrupt land grab of the Trans-Texas Corridor," said Katy Bacon, campaign spokesperson.

At a Farm Bureau Conference in July, Bill White asked members to listen carefully for whether or not Rick Perry would apologize for his policies and for attacking the Farm Bureau for endorsing Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. He asked members to count on one hand the number of times Perry referred to Washington and, on the other hand, the number of times he actually intervened on their behalf on programs they have advocated for decades.

Bill White emphasized that he would protect property rights, provide leadership on water rights, fight excessive regulation, rebuild the the Texas Department of Transportation and improve public education.

White also pledged to members that he’d conduct the business of state government in a non-partisan fashion and set an example for hard work, both approaches in stark contrast with career politician Rick Perry.
