I went to one of my Coffee Party meetings this afternoon. In discussing many issues affecting our society including our body politic one of the members asked if I was following the story about the increase in price of a drug from $10.00 to $20.00. I thanked her for the information and told her I would research it.
I could not believe what I found. A drug that has already been proven to be effective and safe that was being compounded and sold by pharmacies was allowed a 7 year marketing exclusivity by a corporation. This cannot be considered anything less than legal thievery of the middle class.
The drug is a form of progesterone. The company that got exclusivity is KV Pharmaceutical of suburban St.Louis. The name of the drug is Makena.
