Diane Trautman Announces for Harris County Board of Education At Large Position 3

Diane Trautman, a well known Kingwood citizen has entered the Democratic Primary for Harris County Board Of Education At Large #3. Following is her announcement letter.

Diane Trautman Announces for Harris County Board of Education At Large Position 3

Dear Friends,

At the urging of friends, family and supporters, this morning I announced my intention to run for the At Large, Position 3 Harris County Board of Education seat in 2012 to protect the Harris County Department of Education as an educational resource and safety net for all Harris County students and school districts.

Currently, Republican, Michael Wolfe holds the At Large, Position 3 seat for Harris County Board of Education. Even his fellow Republicans have several times asked for his resignation from this position because of his failure to attend meetings and follow board policy. Mr. Wolfe has even called for the dissolution of the Harris County Department of Education as part of his tax cutting philosophy.

The HCDE has served Harris County schools for over 120 years by providing award winning programs in adult education, principal certification, early childhood intervention, teacher training, and buying cooperatives. As a former principal in Tomball ISD, I often used the HCDE services to cut costs and save money for my school. HCDE has served as the backbone of support to so many students, teachers, and school districts in the past, and I want to make sure it is there for the future as well.

According to this year’s Texas on the Brink report, Texas ranks 50th in the nation for the percentage of population 25 and older with a High School Diploma. This is outrageous, and reducing the drop-out rate in Harris County will be an issue I will address if elected to this board. I would like to see HCDE develop a drop out recovery program much like the one we had at the college where I taught and similar to some of the local programs that pair high schools with community colleges and universities.

Education has been my life. I have over 25 years of education experience as a teacher, principal, and professor of education and over 10 years banking experience. My race for the Harris County Board of Education will be about one thing…improving Harris County schools.

So, I am ready to go to work for you to protect the Harris County Board of Education and to improve our schools. Please visit my website at www.dianetrautman.com and drop me an email if you would like to be added to my list of supporters!

All the best to you and your family,

Diane Trautman

JUST IN

Boy does this make the day a brighter one.  So great to hear from our old friend Diane Trautman and even better to learn that she is offering herself to the people of Harris County as a member of the Harris County Board of Education.

Diane has gone to battle for Democrats in the last two elections as our nominee for Tax Assessor-Collector and unfortunately for all the party failed her and she was unsuccessful.  I can think of no better place for Diane than as a member of the Department of Education where, as a REAL DEMOCRAT, she would not only replace a trouble making tea bagger incumbent, but she would join our Jim Henley and Debra Kerner in service to the children of our community.  This time things are going to be different and come January 2013, with the help of Democrats all over, we’ll see Diane take her rightful place on the Board.
