I will be honest, I have never heard of Paul Sadler. All I initially knew is that he is not a Republican and that he is running to replace Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
I immediately searched Wikipedia for a quick pull on Texas demographics and it confirmed that Texas should be a blue state. After-all, as a majority minority state, the party that has become the protector of minority rights is the Democratic Party. I further re-checked the percentage of Texans without health insurance and that number stood at 27%.
Democrats have an opportunity in Texas if they will message correctly. Republicans have decimated the middle class in Texas. They have cut healthcare and education in a draconian matter as corporations went unscathed. They have invaded a woman’s personal space.
Folks, do not listen to the pundits. Republicans have laid the groundwork to make Texas a Blue State beginning with the 2012 election. It won’t be given to us though. We have to tell the story. We have to write the articles to inform Texans. We must ensure our black, Hispanic, misrepresented white voters, and all those in between are registered.

For beleaguered Texas Democrats, famished for a statewide victory after more than a decade of wandering winless in the wilderness, the promised land includes the confluence, someday, of Hispanic demographic growth and a charismatic, young Hispanic candidate. (Think San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.)
Until that happy moment, Democrats occasionally have placed their faint hopes on an Hispanic candidate with either money or notoriety or both (think Laredo oilman Tony Sanchez) or on an old pro who won a race or two in times past. (Think the oft-mentioned John Sharp.)
In the race to replace Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is not seeking re-election in 2012, party poobahs thought they had the former, until retired Gen. Ricardo Sanchez dropped out shortly before the recent filing deadline. Now they have the latter, a former six-term Texas House member who hasn’t held office since 2003, who has little statewide name identification and whose last race was a losing effort in a runoff election for the state Senate in 2004.
