Republicans want to put women in their place. That’s what all of this is about.
Americans are joining together to speak out because Rush Limbaugh’s America isn’t the America where we want to raise our daughters. His values are not what we want to instill in our children.
And American companies are getting the message: what’s bad for women and families is bad for business.
Let’s stand up for an America where every girl can grow up believing she can be anything — not an America that stands by when Limbaugh and his right-wing allies try to put her back in her place.
Some Say: "Liberals are hypocrites because media figures on the left are just as bad as Rush."
- No other public figure has gone after a young woman 46 times in three days — just because she testified before Congress on a public policy — with personal attacks and demanded that she post sex tapes online so he could watch.
- Anyone with a mother, wife, daughter, or sister knows that rhetoric like this crosses the line — no matter your ideology or political party.
- Have we really reached a point where people care more about defending ideological allies than standing up for what is right and good in America? This isn’t about sides but about decency and basic American values.
Some Say: "Lighten up — Rush is just an entertainer."
- Rush Limbaugh’s radio show has more listeners than any other radio show in America and conservative politicians have been putting him on a pedestal as "a great leader" for years.
- If Limbaugh is truly just an entertainer, he’s trying to ruin other people’s lives just to make money and for ratings. That’s all the more reason to pulls ads off his show.
- And the politicians who claim to be champions of family values and protectors of children should be the first and the loudest to condemn him.
Some Say: "Sandra Fluke is a Democratic plant."
- Sandra Fluke is a Georgetown law school student who was asked to testify before a Congressional committee about a policy issue, and that’s what she did. She spoke her mind — no one else’s.
- Here’s what was really partisan: Republicans’ refusal to let her testify at their own hearing on contraception and Republicans’ refusal to condemn Limbaugh and send a message to our children that this is not how to treat people.
- First of all, this claim is just wrong. Sandra Fluke wanted to testify before Congress about private insurance covering contraception in the private health plans that private citizens pay for with their money.
- But if Republican politicians are seriously railing against contraception, they should talk to all the Americans who use it and support making it more accessible.

- Commentators and political strategists are openly saying that Limbaugh is also hurting the larger Republican party. And another new poll suggests they’re on to something: President Obama now leads Mitt Romney among women 55% to 37% and unmarried women 65% to 30%.
