Through this project, Texas Democrats seek to engage young Latinos and ask them to be our Democratic messengers to their family, friends and social networks. Maria Virginia and the other fellows across the state will be tasked with registering voters, recruiting Latinos to the campaign, organizing campus events, and increasing Latino turnout for Democrats.
Tomorrow evening, Maria Virginia will host a kick-off event for the Promesa Project in Houston in which TDP Vice Chair Lenora Sorola-Pohlman and a DREAM Act student will be guest speakers. The official launch of the Fellowship Program represents the beginning of the grassroots component of Promesa, which will only grow in scope between now and November.

The Promesa Project was constructed on two important findings:
- Young Latinos are increasingly the trusted sources of political information in their families and social circles.
- The internet has surpassed television as the main source of political information for young people under 30.
The project combines online outreach with tried and true grassroots techniques like organizing college campuses, utilizing young Party Leaders and elected officials and integrating all data gathered into our voter file for use in Get-Out-The-Vote efforts. Layered on top of those grassroots components, we’ll be integrating the very latest in online tools and techniques including:
- A wide array of web videos produced in-house which are shareable and optimized for mobile devices;
- Talking points on various issues and topics which are shareable so they can be used in discussions at the kitchen table or on social media sites; and
- Social media identities on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google+ and Vimeo.
