Meet Your Houston Promesa Fellows – Leaders Of Harris County Democratic Party Latino Engagement

We’re proud to announce that tomorrow we’re kicking off the grassroots component of the Party’s Latino engagement program known as The Promesa Project. Eight students have been selected as fellows for the grassroots component of the Promesa Project, including Maria Virginia Ivañez from the University of Houston.

Through this project, Texas Democrats seek to engage young Latinos and ask them to be our Democratic messengers to their family, friends and social networks.  Maria Virginia and the other fellows across the state will be tasked with registering voters, recruiting Latinos to the campaign, organizing campus events, and increasing Latino turnout for Democrats.

Tomorrow evening, Maria Virginia will host a kick-off event for the Promesa Project in Houston in which TDP Vice Chair Lenora Sorola-Pohlman and a DREAM Act student will be guest speakers. The official launch of the Fellowship Program represents the beginning of the grassroots component of Promesa, which will only grow in scope between now and November.

We hope you can come out to the kick-off and learn more about the Promesa Project and how you can get involved in making Democratic gains.

The Promesa Project was constructed on two important findings:

The project combines online outreach with tried and true grassroots techniques like organizing college campuses, utilizing young Party Leaders and elected officials and integrating all data gathered into our voter file for use in Get-Out-The-Vote efforts.  Layered on top of those grassroots components, we’ll be integrating the very latest in online tools and techniques including:

We encourage you to visit the Promesa Project to learn more and to give us your promesa that you will talk to your family and friends about voting Democratic.
