 Many have asked for more information regarding yesterday’s victory. The Republican attempt to suppress the poor, underprivileged, Latino and African-American vote has failed once again. A federal court struck down the discriminatory Texas voter ID law. The three-judge panel – again including appointees of President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama – ruled unanimously that the law “disproportionately” affects African- Americans and Latinos. It also noted that the law imposes “strict and unforgiving burdens on the poor”. While we celebrate this victory over discrimination against racial minorities and the poor in Texas, it is important to note that this GOP strategy of voter suppression could still work if you do not register and vote! Register now, and encourage your family, friends and neighbors to register now, as the deadline for registration to vote in the November election is quickly approaching. Register here!
