Mitt Romney’s Libya Response: George Bush With An Insensitivity Bias – He Will Take Us To War

I was appalled when Mitt Romney came out and attacked the President while our embassies in Egypt and Libya were under attack. Attacking a President during a foreign crisis emboldens the attacker as dissention within the ranks of the attacked is seen as a partial victory.

What would have been the response of the mainstream media or the Right Wing has this been the actions of a Democratic opponent? We know they would have been accused of un-patriotism. Mitt Romney’s actions were definitely unpatriotic as he has attacked the President at the same time our embassies were under attack.

What is worst is the substance of his attack. The embassy in Cairo issued the following statement as unrest was starting to build over a poorly made movie disparaging the prophet Mohamed.

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."

The above statement is an American statement. It is a statement we all believe. We have the freedom to say just about anything. With that freedom, comes responsibility. We would not tell an anorexic person that they’ve gained some weight inasmuch as we are free to do so because we know their reaction would likely cause harm to themselves. Why then would one use their freedom of free speech to make a movie that disparages the prophet of a particular religion that believes they must react to any form of blaspheming their prophet or religion? The only reason is to rile up the masses in Islamic countries.

One can speculate to the reasons why the originator of the movie would do it. One does not have to speculate as to how the uproar is being exploited. Mitt Romney was quick to use the American Embassy in Cairo’s statement to play into his false narrative of an appeasing and apologizing President Obama. He even wrote the book “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness” that is described as follows

On his first presidential visit to address the European nations, President Obama felt it necessary to apologize for America’s international power. He repeated that apology when visiting Latin America, and again to Muslims worldwide in an interview broadcast on Al-Arabiya television.

In No Apology, Mitt Romney asserts that American strength is essential—not just for our own well-being, but for the world’s. Governments such as China and a newly-robust Russia threaten to overtake us on many fronts, and Islam continues its dangerous rise. Drawing on history for lessons on how great powers collapse, Romney shows how and why our national advantages have eroded. From the long-term decline of our manufacturing base, our laggard educational system that has left us without enough engineers, scientists, and other skilled professionals, our corrupted financial practices that led to the current crisis, and the crushing impact of entitlements on our future obligations, America is in debt, overtaxed, and unprepared for the challenges it must face.

We need renewal: fresh ideas to cut through complicated problems and restore our strength. Creative and bold, Romney proposes simple solutions to rebuild industry, create good jobs, reduce out of control spending on entitlements and healthcare, dramatically improve education, and restore a military battered by eight years of war. Most important, he calls for a new commitment to citizenship, a common cause we all share, rather than a laundry list of individual demands. Many of his solutions oppose President Obama’s policies, many also run counter to Republican thinking, but all have one strategic aim: to move America back to political and economic strength.

Personal and dynamically-argued, No Apology is a call to action by a man who cares deeply about America’s history, its promise, and its future.

What is funny is that the above is the same type of rhetoric used by George W Bush. After-all a large plurality of Mitt Romney’s advisors are the past Right Wing advisors of George W Bush.

Under George W Bush we went to war to show our military prowess even as we irresponsibly cut taxes, instead of using the less expensive and less damaging surgical techniques used by President Obama. Under George W Bush we supported policies that encouraged the outsourcing of American jobs which is anathema toadopting policies the President has codified in his “Blueprint for an America Built to Last”. Instead Romney has virtually adopted Paul Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity a Blueprint for American Renewal”.

Make no mistake; President George W Bush was Reagan (trickle-down economics) on steroids based on his policies of giving away America’s treasures to the wealthy. Mitt Romney will be George W Bush on steroids based on the policies he wants to follow. He will be George Bush with an insensitivity bias as George Bush gave the semblance of genuinely caring.

We are absolutely clear on what Reaganomics on steroids (trickle-down economics/supply side economics) has done to the American middle class. We know what these policies have done to our budget deficit. See the graphics below.

We must listen to Mitt Romney. Russia is no longer a super power. China is not going around the world blowing things up. China is in Latin America, Africa, and in many other regions establishing relationships which will allow them to capitalize on natural resources and “goodwill” around the world. President Obama is busy winding down our wars of choice that pilfered our treasure and transferred wealth to the few titans of the military industrial complex. Mitt Romney with his vow to increase military spending in a world that is not best served by the types of wars we fought in the past along with his insistence of given our middle class treasure to the few in the form of obscene tax cuts is a recipe for war not only on other nations but on the middle class itself.
