Challenger Cody Pogue likens Dan Huberty to ‘chicken’ after several debate requests

The Cody Pogue Campaign has been trying for weeks to arrange a debate with Republican Incumbent District 127 Texas State Representative Dan Huberty. Dan Huberty simply disregarded all attempts. Cody Pogue and his supporters visited Dan Huberty’s office to challenge him to a debate on October 25, 2012. Of course there was yet again no response.

I asked Cody Pogue if he ever had any contact at all with Dan Huberty. He told me they were both in the parking lot of the school during the primary election. He said he approached Dan Huberty to have a friendly talk and introduce himself to him as his challenger in the election.

Cody Pogue said that Dan Huberty smirked, smiled, and implied that he (Dan Huberty) would not have to do much to be re-elected. Cody Pogue said that gave him more resolve to not only run for the office but to win. He felt that in his tone Dan Huberty assumed that because he was a Republican he owned the vote in the area.

Dan Huberty was instrumental in the draconian cuts in education that has increased class sizes throughout Texas and caused the jobs of thousands of teachers that could have mitigated class overcrowding and substandard teaching and learning. He supported taking concealed weapons on campus, Had that bill passed many would likely consider sending their kids out of state for an education. He supported the very intrusive vaginal ultrasound which shows disrespect for women not seen since the fifties.

Politicians support bills not in the interest of their constituencies because many times Americans acquiesce to the attitude Dan Huberty implied when he spoke to Cody Pogue; “he would not have to do much to be re-elected”. Cody Pogue says he intends to work for every vote in his district. He says he wants every Republican, Democratic, Independent, or other vote. Cody says when children’s education are at stake, it is not about Political Party but about who values your children and policies that support working families..

In Dan Huberty’s interview with our area’s Tribune, his answer was just as coy. Here is a snippet from the article in the Tribune.

In a Sept. 28 press release, Huberty said the Pogue campaign tactics are common of struggling candidates.

“…As he [Pogue] struggles for relevance, and his campaign yearns for any platform, they have adopted a strategy of challenging me to weekly debates,” Huberty wrote. “I am pleased with the campaign we are conducting. My strategy is working well. For the time being, we will set our own schedule and not allow my opponent to dictate when or where I make public appearances,” he continued.

Dan Huberty’s campaign is to stay as quiet as possible about policies he supported. His intent is to ignore his challenger with the expectation that his deeds that have materially hurt every child in this district go unnoticed. Cody Pogue said that this will not happen. His grassroots campaign is knocking on doors and will make sure they get to as many residents as possible to let them know who will really protect the interest of District 127.

This is a democracy. Every citizen must demand that every politician earns their vote.

State Rep. Dan Huberty (TX-127) had an Oct. 3 deadline for a debate response, or else his challenger would debate a chicken.

At a Sept. 27 rally in front of Huberty’s district office in Kingwood, Democrat opponent Cody Pogue told campaign supporters that if Huberty did not respond, Pogue would debate someone dressed in a chicken suit with a name tag.

“We’ve been trying for about a month now, and he still won’t commit to a debate,” Pogue told rally supporters, meeting the statement with booing.

“I believe it’s one of the fundamentals of democracy that people should have access to information. This isn’t a Republican thing. It isn’t a Democratic thing. It’s about American principles.”

According to Pogue, several requests were made to Huberty’s staff for a public campaign For rally videos, visit http://youtube.com/user/OurTRIBtube
