Now surfaces the video below in which the Arkansas Republican State Senator Jason Rapart, who sponsored the state’s new abortion-ban bill , is making racially charged remarks about President Barack Obama at a 2011 Tea Party rally. In the video he says:
"I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama," Rapart says. "You don’t represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We’re going to take this country back for the Lord. We’re going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we’re not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in."
These are not isolated incidences. It was just a short time ago during the primaries that coded racial rhetoric were the norm during the Republican presidential primary. How can one forget comments like “the president needs to learn how to be an American”, “Huma Abedin being a Muslim Brotherhood spy”, “culture makes a difference”, and on and on.
The Republican Party is in trouble. They could use the race card to divide when the difference between whites and minorities was greater than the total amount of voting progressive whites. As that difference falls and the number of progressive whites increases as well, the viability of the party becomes impossible. The Party is currently at that state now.
Signing on to immigration reform will not be a recipe for the Republican Party to recover from its racist stigma as described by both Gen Colin Powell and Col Lawrence Wilkerson. It requires the destruction of the core of the party and a real conservative rebirth based on values and not hate.
