Ted Poe Refuses To Meet With Concerned Constituent-Here Is The Dialogue

Many complain about citizens being apathetic and unengaged. My friend Charlotte has been attempting to engage her Congressman Ted Poe for the last several weeks. The dialogue  is below.

Ted Poe claims he would be in DC most days. He must believe that he is speaking to the uninformed. We all know that Boehner has designed a very short work week with various recesses. The congressman seems to be giving his constituent the brush off.

Dear Congressman Poe:

When I read the remarks made by newly (re)elected Texas Congressman Steve Stockman this morning, I couldn’t help wondering whether there was an implied threat (to President Obama) of gun violence in his statement regarding how much Congressman Stockman disagrees with President Obama on the topic of gun violence. Yes, he specifically stated that he would go so far as to advocate impeachment of our nation’s president for what President Obama has stated recently about what needs to be done to ensure safety in our schools and communities.

Please tell me whether or not you read into Congressman Stockman’s public statement (within the past 24 hours) an implied physical threat to our President. It’s quite apparent that members of the Republican Party have hesitated to admonish fellow members of their party for unsound remarks. But, should you have concluded that your fellow Congressman (from Texas) has implied a threat to our President (or has publically implied that he wishes that a fellow American “do the deed” implied in such a threat), I would hope that you would act to keep our nation from, once again, suffering the loss of a president by one of our own citizens.

Sincerely,

Charlotte Privacy

Congressman, 2nd District of Texas

Dear Congressman Poe:

On the same day that we received your email concerning your opposition to most sane recommendations to curb the gun violence in the United States, we caught a wee bit of Piers Morgan’s interviews last evening with Texas: Attorney General Greg Abbott, as well as Texas State Senator Dan Patrick and nutcase Ted Nugent (apparently he has become famous for having some type of hunting television program). What awful spokespersons the three of them made for the tragic lack of responsibility by our elected officials! We doubt that we were the only Texans who were embarrassed by what these three individuals (two of whom are “elected” officials in our gerrymandered districts).

It is quite apparent that our national budgets have never been provided (by Congress) in order for the necessary background checks to be made on individuals who buy guns in our nation. Those individuals who espouse “limited government” pride themselves on not underwriting the real costs of such vital services that would have protected our citizens. In spite of the NRA’s current opposition on background checks for individuals who desire gun purchases, we heartily support extensive background checks on individuals who wish to buy any kind of gun.

As two of your constituents, we urge you to seriously consider outlawing any kind of assault weapons for purchase in the United States by anyone other than military or state law enforcement personnel. Any of the magazines/clips that contain more than ten bullets should never be for sale in the United States. Whether it is because of the multiple deaths in Arizona, Colorado, or Connecticut that were caused by these dreadful weapons in the hands of individuals who should have never had access to the rapid-fire assault weapons or magazines which had hold more than 10 rounds, responsible legislators must prevent future tragedies. Haven’t we all seen what inaction on these issues has caused in our nation?

Sincerely,

Charlotte,

I’ve checked the congressman’s schedule and unfortunately he is tied up in DC most days for the next several months.  He has asked his district director to contact you and take the meeting on his behalf.  Kristin Barrs will be contacting you to arrange a meeting date.

Thank you again for stopping by the office and for requesting a meeting with Congressman Poe.
