87% of Flu Cases In Houston Are Of Swine Flu
Experts are calling the flu season in Houston normal. According to ABC13 so far this season over 1300 people have gone to emergency rooms with flu symptoms. Eighty seven percent of those with the flu in Houston have the swine flu also referred to as H1N1.
KHOU reports that the swine flu death toll in the Greater Houston area has reached 6 with 14 critically ill. The swine flu (H1N1) strain is the same one that caused the 2009 pandemic.
Last couple of days it was reported that a mysterious flu-like illness had killed four of eight people at a hospital in the Houston. It was also reported that one of the four survivors had the swine flu.
Today it was reported that another one of the patients had the swine flu as well. Tests on nine people who had severe flu symptoms will be tested by the Centers For Disease Control (CDC).

Donna Kinser in the ABC13 story above asks the same question. Her husband was recovering from heart surgery at the same hospital. He was seemingly improving. He suddenly took a turn for the worse and died.
It must be reiterated. None of the patients that died had taken the flu shot. It is imperative that everyone get their flu shots. Additionally one should practice defensive healthcare by washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if sick.
