Today’s Guests

Barbara Gerten, volunteer with the St Paul Area Move to Amend affiliate, comes to this work with a background in accounting, nonprofit management, justice and peace activism. She is the Peace Gramma to 8 grandchildren. The ever growing US military presence throughout the world, the unnecessary and failed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq caused her to question the power of the military industrial complex. Taking back our democracy must happen or we are forever the pawns in their game; taking our money and our children and grandchildren.

Ken Pantel  has been a grassroots organizer and founder of the Ecology Democracy Network. For over 28 years, he has been a grassroots organizer and candidate for public office in Minnesota. In 1986 he started working with Greenpeace in Minnesota as a canvasser, field manager, coalition builder, lobbyist, planning and participating in direct actions, as well as public speaking. He transitioned from Greenpeace to become a all-purpose organizer with the Green Party of Minnesota, working closely on the Nader/LaDuke campaigns of 1996 and 2000 , as well as being the Green Party of Minnesota endorsed candidate for Governor in 1998, 2002 and 2006. In 2008 he left the Green Party to invent the Ecology Democracy Network, dedicated to creating a pro-active way of conducting politics that cares for our natural environment through through education, developing mandates and a grassroots organizing philosophy. After bicycling over 8,000 miles in Minnesota doing outreach and education, the mandates and philosophy of the Network took shape, with one of the projects that emerged was the new Ecology Democracy Party in May of 2010. At that time, he was endorsed to run for Governor of Minnesota, with Erin Wallace (Now Erin Smith) as his Lieutenant Governor, on the Ecology Democracy Party ticket. As of February 2014, he continues to develop the projects of the Ecology Democracy Network.
