Jon Stewart mocks the inability of anyone to criticize Israel in US media

Jon Stewart infers on the truth about the inability to criticize Israel

Jon Stewart in this rather simple skit illustrates graphically the inability of having a dialogue about Israeli and its behavior. He is on point.

In his skit just the mention of Israel elicits a set of canned responses of attack if it is assumed the statement would not be completely positive. It is an exaggeration but rings true. Any doubts? One simply need to examine what happened to Rula Jebreal when she dared to accuse the media of a bias against Palestinians and a pro-Israeli slant. Inasmuch as she had the facts on her side, her further MSNBC TV appearances were cancelled. And what did she say?

“We are ridiculous,” Rula Jebreal said. “We are disgustingly bias when it comes to this issue. Look at how much air time Netanyahu and his folks have on air on a daily basis on Andrea Mitchell and others. I never see one Palestinian being interviewed on these same issues.”

Jon Stewart’s statement should be heeded. Criticizing Israel does not imply support for any of their enemies.

“Obviously there are many strong opinions on this issue,” Jon Stewart said. “But merely mentioning Israel or questioning in any way the effectiveness or humanity of Israel’s policies is not the same thing as being pro Hamas.”
