Joe Scarborough calls out Israel’s actions as ‘asinine’ in good piece of journalism on Morning Joe

Joe Scarborough

Joe Scarborough gets the reporting and journalism right about Israeli acts on Morning Joe

Reporting on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been horribly biased on all networks. Both ‘Liberal” and Conservative networks have displayed poor journalism and no context in their reporting. The asymmetric Palestinians to Israeli deaths seemed to be reported as justified. After all, Hamas has been firing rockets indiscriminately into Israel which could potentially kill many Israeli civilians.

The reality is, Israel has been able to prevent those rockets from killing its people. There is minimal destruction in Israel. Israel could put its efforts into blowing up tunnels from their own territory as opposed to doing so from within Gaza. They could inflict damage on Hamas without killing and maiming thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians.

When one loses the support of Joe Scarborough, a staunch supporter of Israel, one must be concerned. Joe Scarborough presented a segment on the conflict that one must consider journalistic excellence. It reported the facts on the ground with context.

Ayman Mohyeldin, the journalist on the ground MSNBC seemed to have pulled for his graphic reporting of Israeli atrocities, was allowed to report factually and with the proper context. He was allowed to put a human story on those that are being blown up even as they attempt to follow Israeli instructions to flee areas to be bombed. Ayman Mohyeldin had a prescient point to make.

“People will tell you what does this mean for future generations of Palestinians,” Ayman Mohyeldin said. “How is all this trauma going to harden the belief of Palestinians who the international community constantly tries to nudge into reconciling and making peace with Israel when a father like this loses his family and now his own feelings are going to be challenged and hardened by all of this.”

Joe Scarborough seemed to have been taking in by the excellent reporting by Ayman Mohyeldin, not only on air but from his writings. In the end, Joe Scarborough while expressing his support for Israel, is in complete disagreement with their actions. He is coming around to what many outside of the traditional media have known.

“I am sorry,” said Joe Scarborough. “This is asinine. This continued killing of women and children in a way that appears to be indiscriminate is asinine. It is bad. Of course it is tragic for the Palestinian people. It is bad for the Israeli people. … As much as we all hate Hamas, what is going to replace Hamas is going to be much worse. It’s going to be a radical Islamist group. … And the biggest nightmare is that Hamas was on the run. The Arab states hate Hamas. And Israel has made them not only relevant again, but champions of the Palestinian people. … We cannot be associated with this if this continues. This is so bad not only for the Israeli people, BUT FOR US.”

Joe Scarborough is absolutely correct. Last week Rula Jebreal paid a price for sternly calling out the traditional media for their biased coverage of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. While she may not be appearing on the traditional media to express her unbiased point of view, she may have influenced the discourse to allow a more honest portrayal of the conflict.
