Jon Stewart slams Congress for suing the President ‘Congress is the Sharknado 2 of government’

Jon Stewart Sharknado 2

But isn’t the media the Sharknado 2 of information?

Sharknado 2?

Many balk when satirists and comedians like Jon Stewart are held up as purveyors of real news or political analysis. With the state of a news media that is patently incompetent by choice or by corporate design, the likes of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert fill that gap.

“Congress has a lot to get done before their summer recess which is going to start now.” said Jon Stewart. He then plays a clip of congresspersons and senators stating the many bills that need to get passed, the border bill, the highway funding bill, emergency unemployment insurance, student loan relief, and comprehensive immigration reform. The clip then keys in on a statement by John Cornyn (R-TX), “If we don’t do something to fix that by the time we leave here for the August recess, we would have failed.”

“You guys suck. It is not failure,” Jon Stewart said. “It is just you living up to our extremely low expectation. Congress is the Sharknado 2 of government.”

Jon Stewart wonders what will Congress tackle first; the border crisis? Student loans? Or maybe they will tackle a budget resolution? Pete Session (R-TX) answers. “We have choose to bring this legislation forth today to sue the President over his selective implementation of the Affordable Care Act.” This stunned Stewart.

“You have to pass laws on your plate, all of them,” said Jon Stewart. “before you get desert. Which in this case is you suing the President. .. That’s your priority? Sure thousands of immigrant kids are sleeping under our bridges which by the way are collapsing because of the highway structures funding bill. But if we go on break without suing the President will never reach Charlie Rangel level of relaxation.”

Soon after Jon Stewart shows Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) claiming the suit is not about politics. She said if it was a Republican President doing the same thing she would do the same. Jon Stewart points out that when George W. Bush was president, he did the same thing. Bush took executive action to wave penalties for seniors who and others who signed up late. Virginia Foxx was in Congress then. Jon Stewart showed the loud silence on Bush’s actions.

Republicans get away with these stunts because the media is derelict in calling them out on the hypocrisy. Republicans would not stand for these shenanigans if they were dutifully informed. Yes, Congress is the Sharknado 2 of the government. But the mainstream traditional media is the Sharknado 2 of information.
