Democrat James Cargas is running for Texas 7th District US Representative. The incumbent is Tea Party Republican John Culberson. James Cargas is an attorney and an energy expert who says he is committed to seeing all of Houston’s economy thrive. He says he believes that “Houston Can Do Better” with a congressman who will put Houston before party politics.

Energy Attorney for the Energy Corridor
Over the past twenty years, I have developed an understanding of the complexity of energy and environmental policies from having worked at:
- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
- The Clinton White House at the President’s Council on Sustainable Development
- Gov. Bill Richardson’s U.S. Department of Energy
- The North American Energy Standards Board
- A major interstate pipeline company and drilling service company.
I am currently the Senior Assistant City Attorney for Energy for Mayor Annise Parker, a position I also held under Mayor Bill White.
James Cargas attended the 2014 Harris Democrats County Conference. In fact he had a few words to encourage the Harris County Precinct Chairs and activists. He spent time speaking to folks that form part of the ground game in Harris County.
When asked why he should be elected to replace Tea Party Republican John Culberson, James Cargas was ready with all the reasons.
“Compare that [his record and experience] to the incumbent Culberson,” James Cargas said. “He is Tea Party. There are 122 companies that depend on the import/export bank right here, yet he wants to kill the bank. There are 45 wind companies in the district but he made sure that their tax credit went away. The worst traffic in Harris County is in Congressional District 7, yet he works hard everyday to kill light rail and public transportation. The list goes on. … There are thousands of people in this district that benefit from the Affordable Care Act, yet Culberson votes 53 times to kill it. Not amend it. I would like the opportunity to expand it.”
If James Cargas gets his message out to his district, it is hard to imagine that voters would continue to vote against their own interest. It is all about connecting with the community. Activists seem ready.
