Railroad Commissioner Candidate Steve Brown speaks at 2014 Harris Democrats County Conference

Steve Brown Railroad commissioner candidate

Railroad Commissioner Candidate Steve Brown spoke at the 2014 Harris Democrats County Conference. Steve Brown is an energetic and very profound speaker that understands how to bind gut, policy, and reality,

“It cracks me up that so many of the experts, so many of the pundits say we cannot win in 2014,” said Steve Brown. “They say that the task of winning this race is so insurmountable — that Democrats are just given a cursory look. No one is taking it seriously. We know  those pundits have a stellar track record of getting things right, like how they pick Todd Akin to be the Senator. They even picked Perry to win in 2012 before he had his little moment.”

Steve Brown then implied that the reason the Republican statewide candidates are refusing to debate is that they are concerned about their own little moments that would likely occur if Texans heard them speak. Steve Brown said the opportunity to win this cycle is real, legitimate, and can happen.

Steve Brown then went on to decimate the notion that there should be any legitimate reason for any of the statewide candidates to win. “What do they have to run on,” Steve Brown said. “What was their stellar accomplishment that they have been able to achieve in the past ten years, twelve years, fifteen years. Name it. They can’t name it.”

He then ridiculed them for said lack of accomplishment. They did nothing for education, healthcare, or the environment. He asked what pro family value or issues they moved forward. “So why are we giving them a pass?” Steve Brown asked. “And say that they are going to automatically swoop in and win this election cycle. They have not earned it. They have not earned the privilege to serve in leadership again.”

Steve Brown told the audience that it is incumbent on Democrats to take the message to the streets. It is incumbent on Democrats to wake up those that need to get out there and vote. He also implores Democrats to work on those who have been voting for Republicans against their own interests. He echos Harris County Chairman Lane Lewis’ admonishment to all Texans as to reasons why they should vote a Democratic Straight ticket this election.

Steve Brown went into a bit of policy relative to the office he is running for. He said this week he will be releasing a proposal whereby all fracking will be done with recycled water instead of using the scarce supply of fresh water in Texas. Isn’t this the type of policy that should have been thought about decades ago? Brown said this is what Democrats are all about, solutions to problems that ultimately help all Texans.

Steve Brown is the ‘David’ in the room that reminded all Harris County Precinct Chairs and activists about an important story most learned in their early years. His analogy was most appropriate. “As we go forward in 2014 and get ready for the November elections,” Steve Brown said. “We have to remember that although this may be a David versus Goliath competition, David won. I need to remind you that David won that battle. And guess what? We are a state of Davids. There are more Davids in this state than there are Goliaths. If you would go with me. Pick up your stones. Let’s go down to the valley. We can  beat down some giants. We can make some pundits very surprised on November 4th.”

Indeed, Steve Brown, indeed.
