WATCH: You won’t believe the police assault on this family in their car

Jamal Jones assaulted by police

It is sad when children automatically know to videotape when confronted by police. It is sad when one must fear those whose job is to protect you.

Police assault of Jamal Jones and his family

On September 25th, 2014 Lisa Mahone was pulled over supposedly for a seatbelt violation in Hammond Indiana. She was on her way to the hospital. Doctors informed her that her mother was near death.

Lisa Mahone’s boyfriend and their two kids were passengers in the car. She handed over her drivers license and proof of insurance to the police. The police then asked her boyfriend Jamal Jones for his ID.

Jamal Jones informed the police that he had no ID because he had recently received a ticket. He reached into his book bag in the back seat to show the ticket. Officers drew their guns even as his two kids were in the back seat.

Lisa Mahone got scared and called 911 as the assault by police was about to begin. Police told Jamal Jones that they drew their weapons because they did not know what he would do.

“That’s why I have my windows up,” Jamal Jones told officers. “I’m not no harm to you right now. I got my kids in the car and you’re drawing your weapon.”

Jamal Jones tried to give police his ticket but they refused it. He asked them to get a supervisor. He was scared to get out of the car as he did not feel safe. They broke the window violently, Tasered and hauled him out of the car.  They arrested Jamal Jones for resisting arrest.

Jamal Jones’ son recorded much of the interaction and assault. The video snippet can be found here.

Lisa Mahone, Jamal Jones, and their lawyer appeared on MSNBC’s the Reid Report. They said that their children received minor cuts from the broken glass. They said after the event the police simply arrested Jamal and left her to clean up. Lisa Mahone said that before going to the hospital she went directly to the police station to launce a complaint. They filed suit yesterday.
