John Fugelsang: Democrats underestimate Mike Huckabee at their peril? (VIDEO)

John Fugelsang has fun at Mike Huckabee’s expense

Mike Huckabee recently quit his Fox News show to explore a potential run for the US presidency. One cannot be sure how to take Mike Huckabee’s entry into the fold of potentially running for President. Does he really have a chance? Would he really give up a lucrative Fox News stint if he did not believe he could win?

It is likely not because he wants to enter the conservative debate. After all there are many standard bearers like Dr. Ben Carson and Rick Santorum who have carried the ultra Right Wing message.

Mike Huckabee knows running for President is a lucrative business. Ask Herman Cain how profitable it was as free advertising and ready-made sales for his publishing ventures. In other words win or lose there is no down side.

John Fugelsang, a politically savvy satirist/comedian, had an interesting take. He made a bit of fun at the expense of Mike Huckabee.

“I do think however governor Huckabee has shot himself in the foot so many times he could run for deputy of Mayberry,” John Fugelsang said. “But the fact is this man is the best public speaker in the entire Republican Party. And Democrats underestimate his at their own peril. He began his career as a TV Evangelist which means he is very good at lying to people on camera and making them feel good about it. And I guarantee you he’ll have Wall Street donations. He will exhume Chuck Norris for some more ghastly ads together. Those were very effective. I think Huckabee was the only Republican who could have beaten Senator Obama back in 2008. I look forward as a comedian to a hilarious two years of this … .”

After listening to the segment however the little piece he said about TV Evangelist got me to thinking. In a country yearning for hope and change not realized in its entirety, would America try a charismatic leader from the Right who promises upward mobility based on a society that provides less?

I have watched a lot of Huckabee, not only his show but his interactions. He is pleasant. When he keeps more of his extreme views at bay he is as likable as a favorite uncle.

It is going to be a long two years.
