Jon Stewart joined shallow journalistic fray on this one
Jon Stewart normally gets it. Generally he does not succumb to current faux journalistic ‘popular winds’. This time he did.He slammed the Obama administration for not having a bigger presence than that of the US Ambassador to France at the rally in Paris.
What is ironic is that within his skit he provided a good reason why the President of the most powerful country in the world or his immediate subordinates did the right thing in not being on that front line. First of all one knows that even as of this writing, France does not know how deep is the cell that effected the attack. In other words, as Jon Stewart said in the piece, “They are daring terrorism to come over.” Should any US President, Vice-President, or cabinet member put themselves in a still unstable situation where their presence may ‘incite a big one’ for suicidal terrorists?
The shallow American media continue to hyperventilate incessantly about having a more prominent American there. Those that travel with the presidential detail ought to know better. They know what a security detail looks like. They know that the type of crowds present in Paris required more than 36 hours of planning.
Even the French ambassador was cognizant of that fact. “Actually we have been overwhelmed by the expression of solidarity, grief, and friendship coming from all corners of the American people,” French Ambassador Gerard Araud said. “From the highest level of the administration since President Obama came to the French Embassy, and Secretary Kerry, and to the ordinary Americans. I can say the American are a compassionate people. … To be very frank, for us the first impression that we have has is the support expressed by President Obama. As I have said he came to the French Embassy, he made several declarations, Secretary Kerry made a speech in French and he will comeback to Paris at the end of the week. So from the French side there is absolutely no hard feelings.”
Will the American media listen to the French Ambassador
The media needed a story from which to attack the President. The good economic news and the Presidential swagger had to be mitigated. Shamefully, group think is in full vogue. The administration has stopped any real push back and now says they should have sent a more senior official. If they hoped throwing their good call on the sword would temper the hyperventilation, they were wrong. Instead of concentrating on substantive issues of terrorism and lapses within, the media continues on superficiality.
