Jon Stewart may not want to quit now?
Jon Stewart for a minute began having second thoughts about leaving the Daily Show. “If you thought the Republican presidential dance cart was full before,” Jon Stewart said. “The hits keep on coming.”
News clips of George Pataki, Lindsey Graham, and Rick Santorum being announced as Republican primary presidential candidates were shown. “I appreciate the effort,” Jon Stewart said. “My mind is made up. I am leaving the show. I am not staying.”
Then a news clip stating that Donald Trump said he is considering running for the Republican nomination for the presidency was shown. “I made up my mind,” Stewart says exasperatedly. “How much fun could you really have covering this thing.”
It turns out a whole lot of fun. Rick Santorum holding up a lump of coal stated that his father was a coal miner who came to the US not for coal but for the US flag. Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, and Donald Trump have to be listened to in order to believe they were saying what they said.
“I’ve been doing business in China for decades,” Carly Fiorina said. “and I will tell you that yeah, the Chinese can take a test. But what they can’t do is innovate. They’re not terribly imaginative.” This woman was the CEO of a multinational corporation. Even if you think that you cannot say that if you want to be a President that will have to interact with China or any other country for that matter. Suffice it to say the statement is false. Interestingly she was fired from her job as CEO of HP for her failure to perform.
Lindsey Graham takes the cake however. He uses every stereotype about Iranians to specify why he thinks an agreement with Iran is wrong. One wonders if these candidates or devoid of any moral compass.
Jon Stewart will regret leaving. There is so much material left on the table for him to exploit. There is so much left on the table for him to use as a teachable moment to many.
