Jon Stewart makes fun of Chris Christie
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie got the royal treatment from Jon Stewart. First Stewart reacts with exasperation as yet another Republican entered the 2016 contest. He said after Chris Christie surveyed a mediocre Republican field of candidates, he thought he just might have a chance. As we will see later, he committed the cardinal sin that makes him unelectable in a Republican primary.
Stewart made fun of Christie’s pompous announcement where he addressed his high school alma mater as if he were getting ready for a fist fight. Stewart would then let Fox News do some of the dirty work of describing Christie’s poll numbers. Megyn Kelly pointed out that by a 65 to 29% margin, New Jersey voters said Christie would not make a good president. What was Christie’s response? The voters of New Jersey said that because they wanted him to stay. Delusional maybe?
Jon Stewart reminded his audience that New Jersey voters’ expectations of their politicians are pretty low. As such that poll takes on an even a bigger meaning.
Stewart then decided that he was going to give the governor some straight talk. “Here is your real problem governor,” Jon Stewart said. “Let’s do some straight talk. It’s not that New Jerseyans love you too much to let you go. It is that you have already finished second in the loud northeastern egomaniac primary.” Stewart then played a news clip of the other loud, colorful, unfiltered, northeastern candidate, the one and only Donald Trump. “How far must Christie have fallen to be a two term sitting governor unfavorably compared to a perfume selling escalator,” Jon Stewart said amusingly.
Stewart then went on to enumerate all of Christie’s political bad deeds. But sadly none of those would likely cause him to lose the nomination. It is his ultimate sin that would. His embrace of President Barack Obama when the President offered New Jersey support during Hurricane Sandy.
