Donald Trump would put the fear of ISIS in Pope for his critiques of capitalism 2

Donald Trump wants to put ISIS fear into Pope for what?

Donald Trump continues to show contempt for people much more serious than he is. Recently he was interviewed by CNN’s Chis Cuomo where he made some rather silly comments about the Pope, capitalism, and ISIS. And his words are still being taken seriously.

The Hunter at DailyKOS reported it as follows.

Donald Trump says if elected president, he’d scare the Pope. If Donald Trump was elected president it would scare everybody, of course, but Trump means on purpose.

The comment came when CNN’s Chris Cuomo presented Trump with a hypothetical situation during an interview Wednesday. What if, Cuomo said, Trump met the pope, and — through a translator — the pope expressed a belief that capitalism can be “a real avenue to greed, it can be really toxic and corrupt.” How would Trump respond, Cuomo asked.“I’d say ISIS wants to get you,” Trump said. “You know that ISIS wants to go in and take over the Vatican? You have heard that. You know, that’s a dream of theirs, to go into Italy.”

It’s a real nice Vatican you got here, Pope Francis. Be a real shame if anything happened to it.

“He talks to you about capitalism, you scare the pope?” Cuomo asked.“I’m gonna have to scare the Pope because it’s the only thing,” Trump said. “The Pope, I hope, can only be scared by God. But the truth is — you know, if you look at what’s going on — they better hope that capitalism works, because it’s the only thing we have right now. And it’s a great thing when it works properly.”

This isn’t a response he’s crafted to defend capitalism against someone who thinks capitalism should be ended, mind you. This is a response to someone who suggests that maybe the nice capitalist masters could rein in the rampant crookedness a bit. What a fascinating window into his, um, thought processes.

There’s a small part of me that dreams of Donald Trump actually becoming president just because the history books, presuming the written word still existed afterward, would beamazing. But we’d all die, and that’s probably too steep a price to see President Trump try to Godfather a pope around.

Sadly, the media and many Republican candidates continue to take Donald Trump’s words seriously even as they continue to discount his candidacy. They err on both counts.
