This white woman’s comments made my trip to DC worthwhile (VIDEO)

Whitewoman

This white woman tells me the hope I have in humanity is ever present

I traveled to Washington DC on a short notice for the NAACP’s America’s Journey for Justice. Most rallies evolve into a day of speaking and shouting with little follow through.  Moreover, many times the engaged are just engaged superficially.

What I witnessed at the NAACP’s Journey for Justice was the rainbow that is America. The words spoken by the white woman from North Carolina in the video above was the norm. I sat down and engaged with a lot of people.

At one point I had a convergence of middle-aged and older white women displaying a keen interest in many of my stories that are in fact representative of many black and Latino brothers and sisters that live the experience daily. I have spoken about some of these in my piece “I was Trayvon Martin the day I came to America.”
