Trevor Noah shines on his Daily Show premier
Trevor Noah shines in his Daily Show premiere. He is as funny, witty, and politically savvy in his delivery as Jon Stewart was. Jon Stewart must be proud of his choice.
Trevor Noah started by introducing himself. His first self-deprecating joke was perfect.
“This is surreal for me,” Noah said. “I am not going to lie. Growing up in the dusty streets of South Africa, I never dreamed that I would one day have two things really — an indoor toilet and a job as host of the Daily Show. And now I have both. And I am quite comfortable with one of them.”
He joked about Jon Stewart being the country’s political dad that has left. “And now it feels like the family has a new step dad,” Noah continued. “And he is black. Which is not ideal.”
Trevor Noah pointed out that the women that were asked to host the show turned it down. He then said that every American turned it down as well. “So once more a job Americans rejected,” Noah said. “is now being done by an immigrant.”
Trevor Noah went on to thank Jon Stewart for believing in him. He was not sure what Stewart saw in him. “I will make you not look like the crazy old dude who left his inheritance for some random kid from Africa.”
He then thanked the viewers for watching. He vowed to continue the war on bullsh*t.
