Ted Cruz got one thing right at the Republican Debate.

Ted Cruz justifiably slammed the media at the Republican Debate

Most Liberals see the so called Liberal Media as nothing but a smoke and mirrors construction by the Right. By constantly attacking the media as liberal, the Right inoculates itself from real tough probative questions. If tough questions are asked, they call the media liberal. The media in turn generally fails to ask tough probative questions in fear of being stamped with the Liberal Media’ moniker.

Ted Cruz played the aggrieved in perfect form a the Republican Debate. “Senator Cruz, congressional Republicans, Democrats, and the White House are about to strike a compromise that would raise the debt limit, prevent a government shutdown, and calm financial markets that fear another Washington created crisis is on the way,” said CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla. “Does your opposition to it show that you are not the kind of problem solver American voters want?”

One can love the question as a partisan. However it is more drama than a probing question. The question should have been something to the effect of why oppose or threaten a shutdown when past experience was a failure that cost American taxpayers billions. Instead Quintanilla’s framing left the door open for Ted Cruz to grandstand. And that he did effectively because all night the questions were amateurish. Then again, CNBC is the bastion of misleading financial information and as such this type of questioning should be expected.

Ted Cruz showed that he has a sharp mind. He rephrased questions asked of several of the presidential candidates in a form that showed them to be rather petty. Fantasy football was actually within a question in a what should have been a serious debate with too many participants.

Throughout the night most of the candidates attacked the media in one form or another. The reality is the moderators seemed rather incompetent as they were manhandled by the candidates. The faux Liberal Media looked almost as bad as the candidates.
