Voting works: Right Wing school board kicked-out in Colorado county (VIDEO)

School Board recalled Colorado Jefferson County Right Wing Progressives

School Board members recalled

After an election yesterday where it seems throughout the country many people voted against their interests, there were some good spots worth mentioning. In San Francisco, voters voted down attempts to limit individuals renting their properties. Does anyone doubt this was a stealth attack from the hotel interests?

The inspiring victory was from Colorado. The Right Wing Jefferson County school board members were recalled for their intransigence and promotion of deception and anti-learning.

Voting still works. Activists must get to the heart of the voters and define the narrative truthfully and pointedly.

Progressives Celebrate Massive Jefferson County Recall Victory

LAKEWOOD: As election returns in the Jefferson County school board recall election show a massive victory for the parents, students, teachers, and Jeffco stakeholders who rose up against the far-right school board majority elected in 2013, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, celebrated a hard-fought win with nationwide implications in the battle over public education.

“For two years, a fringe majority on the Jefferson County Board of Education has violated the trust of the voters who elected them–and today the people struck back,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “Tonight, we celebrate a win, not just for the students and teachers of Jefferson County, but our neighborhood public schools across America, which have been targeted in recent years by radical ideologues who don’t put our kids first.”

“As the parent of a freshman at Pomona High School, I’ve seen firsthand the damage done in two years by the radical board majority we defeated tonight,” said ProgressNow Colorado political director Alan Franklin. “Hundreds of great teachers have fled my son’s great schools. Students and parents who spoke out against the damage this majority was inflicting were openly bullied in school board meetings I attended. A great wrong was done by this school board majority–but tonight we did right by our kids and our neighborhood schools.”

“Tonight’s victory will have a lasting impact in the fight to protect our nation’s public schools,” said Runyon-Harms. “The voters of Jefferson County saw through the high-priced ads and campaigns of deception and rejected radical ideologues who want to censor our history–and marginalize students who don’t fit their bigoted norms. Jefferson County is home to some of our state’s best public schools, and thanks to an overwhelming majority of voters who came to their rescue, Jeffco schools will continue to provide a superior education for almost 90,000 great kids.”

“We are so proud of this community,” said Runyon-Harms. “They didn’t let the kids down.”
