The Tribune in Kingwood quoted my rather tough statement on the HERO outcome in Houston, TX

Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) defeat

The Tribune asked for my thoughts, a statement, on the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) vote in Houston, Texas. They quoted the following which was mild given my real feelings.

“Unfortunately, Houston succumbed to the politics of fear,” said HERO supporter Egberto Willies, a Kingwood resident, political blogger and host of “Politics Done Right on 90.1 KPFT FM. “The electorate was perverted by an unholy alliance between a sect of black preachers andthe Right Wing southern religious complex.  This Right Wing has a less than stellar past on social justice.  Ironically, while they collaborated in the promotion of hate, the Right Wing has not been there and will not be there to support policies that positively move the black preachers’ pews forward.”

I am still just as disappointed (and pissed by the tactics used) at the outcome of this vote. I gave a similar but more extensive rant on YouTube. My KPFT 90.1 FM show Politics Done Right also covered the subject. I have never received that many calls in my one hour show before from mostly disappointed Houstonians. You would think by now folks would come out and vote to prevent the small number of hateful and misinformed people from setting an extremely bad agenda.
