Ted Cruz’s bigotry and inconsistency in full vogue
Ted Cruz proved once more he assumes Americans are less than intelligent with his articulation of inconsistent bigotry. Dana Bash told Ted Cruz that President Obama called him out for effectively calling for a religious test to determine which refugees could be brought into America. The President called it shameful and un-American.
Ted Cruz’s dad was a Cuban refugee. It is rather ironic that he would be anti-refugee of any kind. But lo and behold, he only wants Christians. Who cares about the humanity of non-Christians. Dana Bash reminded Ted Cruz that he came from a family that benefited from America’s refugee laws.
“What would have happened if your father was trying to get from Cuba to the United States,” Bash asked. “And the political leaders here said ‘Nope, we don’t thinks so because who knows, you could be somebody who could commit crimes against America.'”
Ted Cruz spun the answer. He said if his father was a part of a movement like radical Islam it would have been OK to keep him out. Of course his father could have been a part of some sort of covert communist infiltration in America. One could not possibly know if his father was an undercover agent. Right? Under GOP faux paranoia everything is possible, so we just keep them out.
But Ted Cruz did not go that far. He suggests a religious test. Accept the Christians and keep the Muslims in majority Muslim countries. In other words he is implicitly defining America as a Christian nation, not a nation of multiple religions.
It is evident that Ted Cruz and his ilk are into promoting the ‘monolithication’ of America. That is why they are so eager to define ‘the other’. This is how it starts. And for those in his Party that are generally thought of as ‘the other’, they better beware. Their honorary status to belong is likely to end when the other ‘the others’ are completely marginalized. Read between the lines.
