Chuck Todd should be commended on this refugee report
Chuck Todd presented an excellent report on refugees in America on Meet the Press. The report should lay to rest fallacies about the risk posed by an open door policy towards refugees.
While this blogger is hard on Todd and many in the traditional mainstream media, it is important to commend them when they act like the journalists they are supposed to be. This report way overdue= better late than never.
The vast majority of Republican candidates have been lying to Americans about the risk that refugees present to America. Barney Frank did an excellent job of exposing the bigotry of those who have been engaged in this behavior.
Immigration lawyer Scott Hick explained the thoroughness of the refugee process in a long prose. He said the following.
Every person accepted as a refugee for planned admission to the United States is conditional upon passing a medical examination and passing all security checks. Frankly, there is more screening of refugees than ever happens to get on an airplane. Of course, yes, no system can be 100% foolproof. But if that is your standard, then you better shut down the entire airline industry, close the borders, and stop all international commerce and shipping. Every one of those has been the source of entry of people and are much easier ways to gain access to the U.S. Only upon passing all of these checks (which involve basically every agency of the government involved in terrorist identification) can the person actually be approved to travel.
All journalists should have been ready to confront politicians when the misinformation began. One of the reasons the polls have dramatically shifted is because the mainstream media has not done its job in appropriately informing Americans about the refugee process. Chuck Todd’s piece is a good start.
