Spineless - Chuck Todd commends President's tone then allows Right Wing guest to slam him

For every step Chuck Todd takes forward he takes two back

Spineless – Chuck Todd commends President’s… by ewillies

Chuck Todd said all the right words for a change as he defended the President’s reaction to the San Bernardino massacre. Then he allows a Right Wing clear sailing to unjustifiably slam the President.

“I thought the President’s statement was extremely appropriate, was pretty apolitical,” Chuck Todd said. “You know I know some people always are looking to see, ‘Is he going to make a political statement about this.’  I mean this was a president putting out the facts. This is a complicated investigation. It’s unlike any mass shooting we’ve seen. They can’t find the motive. The digital footprint of these two individuals have not illicited the obvious motive and the way we’ve been able to quickly find out the motive of other mass shootings previously. That’s all missing in this. The President was trying to strike that balance of acknowledging ‘We don’t know the motive yet,’ and maybe everybody needs to calm down. But even what he said on guns, he was very careful of what he said. The goal needs to be that for whatever reason somebody may decide do this. We gotta make it a little bit harder. So to me that was a president trying to come up with almost a , as unifying as a way to tackle this as he could come up with …”

A day later Chuck Todd allowed a panelist to rant about the President being partisan with his response to San Bernardino. Instead of building on his comments where he truthfully described the President’s tonality, seriousness, and legitimate concern, Chuck Todd simply changed the subject as he asked a question of another panelist.

This is a classic example of the media not doing its job. It is an example of how spineless journalists are. They allow the Right Wing to use false narratives to reach a segment of the population they otherwise could not. It is not about confronting a guest. It is about ensuring that the audience is provided with truthful valuable dialogue.
