Lack of empathy is a bad thing
Bill Maher did an excellent and funny New Rule with irrefutable examples of self-serving empathy displayed by the GOP only under certain conditions. Maher gave detailed examples of Republican politicians only changing to a humane stance after a family member is affected.
“While Republicans do lack the empathy gene,” Bill Maher said. “That is the inability to see other people suffer and make the complicated leap to ‘I wonder if that hurts.’ They do often get on the humane side of the issue when it hits them right in their own home.”
Maher went on to give several examples. He pointed our Jeb Bush’s daughter on drugs had an impact on Jeb. He mentioned Dick Cheney’s support for LGBT rights given his gay daughter. He talked about Dan Quayle supporting choice for his daughter. Nancy Reagan supported stem cell research after Ronald Reagan came down with Alzheimer.
This is no different from Brent Brown. Brown is a Republican who was once anti-Obamacare and anti-Obama introduced President Obama at a rally in Milwaukee. He is now an avid Obamacare supporter because he got sick with a disease, lost his insurance, and got full coverage from Obamacare.
