Chris Hayes' compelling interview of former anti-Obamacare now Obamacare recipient

His Obamacare atonement is commendable

Brent Brown is a Republican, who was a staunch opponent of Obamacare. He became dependent on it after he got very sick. Now he is an avid supporter. In fact, he wrote a letter thanking President Obama. In the letter, he explained that he Obamacare was there when he needed it most. Recently he introduced the President at a rally.

Chris Hayes asked Brown how did he make the transition. Browns reply showed that he understood that his lack of empathy until he was impacted is a problem.

“It was difficult,” Brent Brown said. “And it really didn’t happen unfortunately until I was personally impacted. When I got terribly sick. When I did not have health insurance. And then all of a sudden, I did have health insurance. And I could get care. So the main thing that changed my mind is also something that I regret in that the empathy that I found for people was only empathy that I found after having a major and serious disease ravaging my body.

Hayes then asked Brown what were his thoughts when Obamacare was just an abstraction.

“Republican good, Democrat bad,” said Brown. “That was my thought process. That it is going to be very expensive. That there were going to be many loafers that would take advantage of the system. And that it is not an okay thing if you are a conservative.”

Brent Brown’s statement ties in perfectly with Bill Maher’s New Rule last night, He said the following.

“While Republicans do lack the empathy gene,” Bill Maher said. “That is the inability to see other people suffer and make the complicated leap to ‘I wonder if that hurts.’ They do often get on the humane side of the issue when it hits them right in their own home.”

Brent Brown is just our latest example.
