Americans will do well to listen to Rachel Maddow’s election advice
Rachel Maddow appeared on Seth Meyers to talk about the 2016 races where she provided salient election advice Americans will do well to heed. The entire segment was pretty funny as she made fun of Donald Trump.
Maddow pointed out that Donald Trump has no real policy positions. He simply grabs stuff out of the air to placate whatever audience he is addressing. In effect, any kind of policy is unimportant to him. Maddow said that Trump is running on “who he is. He is a big rich guy who doesn’t pay attention to what people want from him. He is willing to be politically incorrect, and he is self-funding and all this stuff.”
Rachel Maddow said if one doesn’t go at who Trump is instead of his nonexistent policies, the opportunity is lost to take the farce apart. Seth Meyers points out something that many have been saying. It will be hard to run against Trump. Maddow’s response should be heeded by all.
“If you care about politics, this is a time when politics is really going to matter,” Maddow said. “I think right now — and liberals are going to freak out when I say this — but I think it is fifty-fifty right now in terms of who wins. And how Hillary Clinton, who is the likely Democratic nominee, runs against him, how he runs is going to matter. Like the practice of political campaigning is about to be really important. There is nothing that you can say right now intrinsically to who they are that tells you how it is going to turn out. And so this is a time to really pay attention. Like, it is fun, and it is interesting, and it’s a little bit scary, but the future of our country is going to be radically different depending on which of these candidates wins. And the next six months is going to determine it. And we all owe it to our own country just to pay attention to it and to be engaged. It is important this time.”
Rachel Maddow could not be more right. Many liberals are taking Donald Trump for granted. They believe we are getting ready for a Hillary Clinton landslide. There are many that are warning that it is imperative that one takes Donald Trump seriously. A few weeks ago Van Jones pointed out the Trump path to the presidency (here and here).
These are trying times. Americans are on the edge. Americans feel they have tried everything and thus have nothing to lose by trying even a candidate that on paper seems like a joke, a caricature.
