Mike Murphy: He is a stunning ignoramus
Donald Trump was always considered a joke by most pundits in the political establishment. The polls and reality clearly showed that Trump was on the ascent. Of course, most of the elitist pundits were so wedded to their impeccable infallibility that they chose to ignore reality. Had they been more humble, they would have confronted the farce that is Donald Trump early enough to prevent the metastasis of Trumpism.
Imagine if enough candidates, the media, and these elitist pundits said the things Republican Strategist Mike Murphy is now saying.
“I think he is a stunning ignoramus foreign policy and national security which are the issues I care most about,” Mike Murphy said. “And said one stupid reckless thing after another. And he has shown absolutely no temperament to try to learn the things that he doesn’t know. And he doesn’t know just about everything. What he said recently about Korea to Reuters where he would go meet with the Korean dictator which blow up decades of bipartisan American policy about how we treat dictators. Nuclear arms in South Korea — Pulling out of NATO. The guy has a chimpanzee level understanding of national security policy. And I frankly think that the stakes of the presidential election are much higher than some local political race. It ought to be a principled decision and I can’t support him.”
That is the most striking statement of Donald Trumps ineptitude in one mouthful that has likely been heard to date from any Republican strategist of consequence. Murphy’s sentiment carries even more weight given the Republican tendency to coalesce around any candidate irrespective of values, to ultimately win.
Sadly I fear that Donald Trump has a bigger chance than most believe, to become President of the United States. Remember at each stage of the primaries everyone thought that Trump had no chance.
