Fox Sports reporter Emily Austen should know better
Fox Sports fired reporter Emily Austen for appearing in an online video in which she made various racist statements about different ethnic groups. The video is striking.
The segment started with a reference to the Austin High School valedictorian Mayte Lara Ibarra. Ibarra revealed she was undocumented in her commencement speech. Three of the four panelists were disgusted by that. One called her an idiot, book smart, and the dumbest person in the world. Emily Austen’s provided a shocking response. Did she realize this is the age of the Internet?
“So you think it’s real,” Austen asked. “With the whole girl, I didn’t even know Mexicans were all that smart.”
The rest of the panel immediately started chanting Trump. They called her Trump junior. This interaction points out much. It illustrates how our politics permeates our everyday lives. It demonstrates that the actions of bad politicians, insensitive politicians, racist politicians, make evil acts vogue.
Austen continued her diatribe on other ethnic groups including Jews and Chinese. She finished the segment professing her love for Mexicans.

We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with Fox Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of Fox Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming Fox Sports Florida or Fox Sports Sun broadcasts.
