Stephen Colbert's take on the Democratic sit-in #‎NoBillNoBreak‬ (VIDEO)

Stephen Colbert had some advice for Democrats who are staging a sit-in in Congress. He pointed out the sad reality about who has Republicans’ ear.

Stephen Colbert advice to Democrats?

Stephen Colbert said that Democrats are protesting for gun control by having a sit-in in the wells of Congress.

“In the House of Representatives, Democrats have staged a sit-in to force action on gun control,” Colbert said. “After all, they are fighting for two things ninety percent of Americans are in favor of; stopping terrorists from getting guns, and sitting down.”

Colbert pointed out that Republicans shut off cameras and microphones. But the ingenious Democrats made good use of social media to get their message out, Periscope and Facebook Live.

Stephen Colbert said he is sympathetic with what the Democrats are doing. But he was concerned with their messaging. He made fun of Connecticut Congressman John Larson’s statement.

“As usual, they need a little help with their messaging,” Colbert said. “Listen to what  Connecticut Congressman John Larson said as members began to sit down. ‘Larson: Rise up Democrats. Rise up Americans. This cannot stand’  After that, I need to lie down.”

The next Colbert joke while funny was too true and points out the sad state of out politics.

“The Democrats are demanding a vote before the 4th of July recess,” Colbert said. “And to send that message they chanted, ‘No Bill No Break’ almost drowning out the gun lobby shouting, ‘I will make the check out to cash’. Republicans are already responding. Representative Tom Cole said quote, ‘I don’t think we should allow any group to bring the work of the House to a halt. It’s true. You wouldn’t want the gridlock to lose its momentum. Don’t let your complete paralysis get in the way of a good stalemate.”

That says it all. But all is not lost if Americans keep calling their Congresspeople and demand action. Even more important, vote your derelict congressperson out irrespective of party affiliation if they continue to vote against your interest.
