Media bias in teacher-student sex abuse
Much of America’s racial problems are directly related to the manner in which broadcast companies report the news, media bias. All humans of all races have the proclivity to do both good and bad equally.
The mainstream media continue
Throughout the last few years, the local stations in the Houston metropolitan area have been reporting case after the event of teacher’s improper sexual behavior with students. I have covered many here. Most of the teachers were decidedly not people of color.
The KPRC report used a tactic that the media uses throughout the nation. It allowed one to infer that sex abuse is predominantly affected by people of color. The three teachers you featured were all minorities. It showed a black woman, a Latino woman, and a black man.
KPRC (Click2Houston) did something a bit more underhanded. In the preamble of the report, they did not give the name of the black teacher. But when they showed the Latina teacher, they identified her by her Latina surname to ensure that there would be no mistake.
This type of reporting is not an oversight by the media. It had to be deliberate from a statistical point of view.
As I get older, I realize that most people are in fact good. They are not intentionally ill-willed. People, however, are programmed by the few who have the resources to do so. Our bias media, our corporate media are nothing but tools, sometimes by design, sometimes by conditioning. They promote a narrative that maintains a particular status quo, an established order.
So please remember a few things as you watch the news as it relates to crime.
- I live in Kingwood, Texas, a predominantly white upper-middle-class suburb of Houston. Many police officers tend to ignore juvenile delinquency (vandalism, drunk driving, etc.) by taking the kids home, etc. If fact a friend’s car a few weeks ago was hit by a drunk kid in the parking lot in a fast food lane. The cop asked my friend not to press charges as it would damage the boy’s life going forward. Many in the ghettos, barrios, and minority middle-class communities are rarely afforded that constancy that occurs in Kingwood. Their stats are codified in the computer systems. Those kids taken home are reprimanded appear in no statistics.
- FBI statistics while true does not reflect proportional reality. Arrests in over policed areas which are decidedly minority skew the data. Of course, once our youth gets into the prison system, they simply learn how to be better criminals. Wouldn’t education be more efficient especially given how much cheaper it is?
- When you see media bias, report it. I wrote to KPRC (Click2Houston) and complained. Solving our problems require our full engagement all of the times.
