It is shameful that the Dakota Access Pipeline protest with north of one thousand participants on an issue that affects the well-being of dozens of indigenous communities gets so little coverage. Mainstream media continues to loop on shallow topics including Donald Trump’s incessant amateurish tweets.

I knew about a pipeline protest occurring somewhere in the Dakotas. Like many other folks, my obsession with the presidential race placed learning about the protest on the back burner. That was and is wrong.
My friend Neeta Lind’s (DailyKOS’ navajo), founder of Native American Netroots and co-editor of First Nations News & Views recent Facebook post asking friends to spread her DailyKOS article woke me up. I implore you, please read it and read the linked stories in the article.
Our fight is with multi-national corporations who are now in control of our democracies throughout the world. We must always keep our eyes open on not only our local issues but issues local to our fellow brothers and sisters throughout out country and throughout the world. Corporations continue to do as they please and are now a government onto themselves with their purchase of our government.
Your short term and long term vote matter. In the short term vote for candidates that offer the least damage to our freedom, values, and economic well-being. In the long run, we must find real progressive candidates or become progressive candidates ourselves to make our government of and by the people.
Corporate domination must end. Corporations must return to their original intent. They must be nothing more than tools for our society. Over the last several decades America followed the direction laid out by the Powell Manifesto. Corporations infiltrated our media, schools, think tanks, and every fabric of society to indoctrinate Americans into believing companies and the private sectors are the better than government for every aspect of society. That is patently wrong. It is just a method of transferring the public domain to a few eventually making us all indentured servants. As harsh as that sounds the number bear that reality out.
