President Obama flew to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and gave Donald Trump a consolidated tongue lashing that likely had Trump’s ears burning.

President Obama was in campaign form as he defanged Donald Trump with both ridicule and a seriousness he urged on those listening. It was not long before the President got into the meat of his speech.
“Let’s talk about Mr. Trump,” Obama said. “He’s not really a ‘plans’ guy, a fact guy. He calls himself a business guy. America’s got a lot of business men and women who’s succeeded without hiding their tax returns, leaving a trail of lawsuits, workers who didn’t get paid, people feeling like they got cheated.”
The President then went after the fallacy that Trump is for the working guy.
“I keep on reading this analysis,” the President said. “Well, you know, Trump is going to have support from, like working folks. Really? This is the guy you want to be championing working people? This guy who spent seventy years on this earth showing no concern for working people. This guy, is suddenly going to be your champion? I mean he spent most of his life trying to stay as far away from working people as he could. … He wasn’t going to let you onto his golf course. He wasn’t going to let you buy in his condo. And now suddenly this guy is going to be your champion? So yes, if you oppose raising the minimum wage, you should vote for Trump.”
President Obama then went after the media. He pointed out that he is not running but that he gets frustrated by the reporting.
“You don’t grade the presidency on a curve,” Obama said. “This is serious business.”
He then pointed out the false narratives and false equivalences.
“You want to debate transparency?” Obama exasperatedly asked. “You’ve got one candidate in this race who has released decades worth of her tax returns. The other candidate is the first in decades who refuses to release any at all. You want to debate foundations and charities? One candidate’s family foundation has saved countless lives around the world. The other candidate’s foundation took money other people gave to his charity, and then bought a six-foot painting of himself. … You want to debate who is more fit to be our president? One candidate who has traveled to more countries than any secretary ever has, has more qualifications than pretty much anyone who has ever run for this job. And the other who isn’t fit in any way, shape, or form to represent this country abroad and be its commander in chief. … Our standards for what’s normal has changed. And Donald Trump says stuff every day that used to be considered as disqualifying for being president. And yet because he says it over and over and over again, the press just gives up. ”
The President’s most prescient statement notes a sad state of our politics.
“We can’t afford,” the President said. “To treat this like a reality show.”
