Angela Rye did the best job in this segment as she not only questioned the legitimacy of the Trump presidency but correctly pointed out why it must be considered undemocratically illegitimate.
CNN Host questions Trump’s legitimacy
CNN Hosts Angela Rye and Kayleigh McEnany went at it over the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency. Rye outlined why as McEnany objected.
“I have to address this delegitimizing point,” Angela Rye said. “Donald Trump’s election in my mind is far from legitimate at this point. I have every issue in the world with the fact that Hillary Clinton gets closer and closer every day to a three million vote lead against Donald Trump. I have every issue in the world with the fact that electors feel like they can’t in some instances, in good conscience support this man as president. I have every issue in this world with the fact that the intelligence community is questioning the legitimacy of this election. If someone can hack into not only our process, … I am questioning the legitimacy of it. I don’t care what they are saying. … I am questioning it because there are a variety of factors at this point now that have severely impacted our democracy.”
Kayleigh McEnany attempted to take a nonpartisan stance by rhetorically saying Russia hacked America, not just the DNC. The moderator pointed our the president-elect did not even acknowledge Russian involvement. But then McEnany challenged Angela Rye.
“What is equally inexcusable is for my colleague to question the legitimacy of the election … ,” McEnany said. “If you have problems with the electoral college which have existed for all of time, you can take that up on a separate day and a separate place. This was a legitimate election. And no one should question the fact that Donald Trump is the president-elect because he is there fairly.”
It was evident that McEnany was not aware that the electoral college was a compromise also having to do with slave states and counting blacks as three-fifths of a person. Rye slammed back.
“I will do what I want to do,” Rye replied. “And what I am saying is that I do not believe that this is legitimate for a lot of reasons including the fact that the intelligence community said that our electoral process was tampered with. I have every right to say it. I have every issue with the electoral college. I have since before this election. It does not speak for me. I am not supporting a system that was built on the backs of my ancestors who were slaves. I am not here for it. And I can say I don’t like it. And I can say that I am going to fight against that system. That is my right. And no, I do not believe that this election is legitimate. That guy is not my president.”
It is so important for Americans to know our history. We are still living with some of the most undemocratic and evil parts of it.
