Congressman Keith Ellison tells Houston why he wants to be DNC Chair (VIDEO)

Congressman Keith Ellison appeared with several other aspiring DNC Chairpersons at the DNC Future Forum in Houston, Texas. He expressed the Democratic tenet that while verbalized is not currently actualized in the Democratic Party. He said he intends to change that if elected.

Congressman and aspiring DNC Chair speaks on engaging Democrats

Many Houstonians, Texans, and out-of-staters attended the DNC Future Forum in Houston. The forum, for the most part, went smoothly. Only DNC members were allowed to ask questions of the candidates. When many of the younger attendees protested,  the DNC came to a compromise by taking written questions that DNC members asked. I always wonder why the established leaders in the Democratic Party many times fail to realize that one holds on to power by serving those who ultimately give them power.

I pulled Congressman Keith Ellison aside and asked him why he wanted to be DNC chair.

“I am running for the Chair of the DNC because we’ve got to get Democrats elected,” Keith Ellison said. “In 2017 if Democrats are not elected bad things happen to good people. People get separated from their families. People get their health care taken away. We have to win because we are on a sacred mission to uplift all people. Liberty and justice for all that is what the Democratic Party should be. The Democratic Party is not really for the Democrats. It’s for the American people. We have to be advocates for them. And that’s why I am running to help make the Democratic Party that advocate that fights for all Americans. Whether you are fighting for prosperity or fighting for respect or both, we’ve got to be there for you. And that’s why I want to lead the DNC.”

Keith Ellison’s cheering posse

Congressman Keith Ellison had the most organized posse in Houston. It bodes well for him as DNC Chair frontrunner that the grassroots are with him which is something the Democratic Party needs to regrow sooner rather than later.

Earlier, Dr. Reverend William Barber gave one of the most fact-based inspirational speeches that laid out our current landscape. He did so by giving historical similarities as well as the method to overcome. You can watch most of the DNC Future Forum in Houston here.
