Joy-ann Reid tried her best to get J.D. Hayworth to have an intelligent conversation on the plight of immigrants under the draconian policies of Donald Trump. He made everything many believe of his party a reality.
Joy-ann Reid shuts down J.D. Hayworth
Joy-ann Reid gave ex-Congressman J.D. Hayworth and host of Newsmax Prime as much latitude as she could but ultimately had to kick him off of her show. The entire segment was volatile as Hayworth attempted to monopolize the conversation. But the two snippets in the excerpted video shows his mindset on race and ethnicity. Reid could eventually take it no more.
“Let me ask you a very specific question,” Reid said. “There was an arrest of an immigrant who went in to seek domestic violence protection. It was somebody in El Paso County in Texas. … Do you have any discomfort J.D. that somebody showed up to try to get protection for domestic violence and was instead swarmed on, I believe by six ICE agents and arrested?”
“I have a greater discomfort with Latino on Latino violence in Washington D.C.,” A clueless Hayworth responded. “where a fifteen-year-old was savagely attacked by members of MS13. I have a greater concern about law breaking and violence than I do about the situation where people disobeyed immigration laws.”
“You talked earlier about false narratives,” an exasperated Reid responded. “You answered my question about a specific arrest with an attempt to talk about Latino on Latino violence. Essentially you are trying to ascribe violence to an entire race of people, ethnicity.”
She made another attempt to have Hayworth engage appropriately.
“Why specifically would Latino members of Congress be denied access to the meeting about immigration and customs enforcement,” Reid asked. “Particularly when these were members specifically concerned about this and were the ones who raised those concerns? Why would they be kept out of the meeting? … You don’t think that that’s strange?”
“I don’t believe that narrative is exactly the case,” J.D. Hayworth said. “I think there is probably more to it.”
Joy-ann said it was according to Congressman Luis Gutierrez.
“We will take it out of the ethnicity,” Hayworth said. “Although that’s tough when you take a look at the stunt that Elizabeth Warren pulled. We know that she claimed to be American Indian.”
“What does Elizabeth Warren have to do with anything,” Reid asked. “We are going to end here. But sir, sir, you talked about straw men. But twice no you’ve answered questions with non-sequiturs that some sort of an ethnic base to them. Now you have gone after Elizabeth Warren’s Native Amerian heritage which is a complete non-sequitur. I think we are done with this segment.”
Good job Mrs. Reid.
