Jon Stewart pushed Stephen Colbert aside to get some TV time to excoriate Donald Trump for his constant lying. He had some advice for the press that he thinks they will accept. Believe me.
Jon Stewart skewers Donald Trump and the Press
Jon Stewart made an appearance on Stephen Colbert and skewered Donald Trump and the derelict media that was instrumental in his ascendency. Stewart pointed out the three of his latest big lies.
- Trump’s claim that he had the biggest electoral college win since Ronald Reagan.
- He is the least anti-Semitic person when evidence points to the contrary.
- He claimed that the crime rate was at some sort of all time high when the opposite is closer to the truth.
Colbert asked Stewart how does he know our president is a liar. Stewart pointed out that anyone who uses the phrase ‘believe me’ is generally not to be believed.
Near the end, Stewart had a message for the press. He castigated them for flirting with Trump during the primaries and the general election. He reminded them that their constant verbiage stating Trump would become more presidential was not realized and was unlikely to be realized. Why? Yoo cannot make a seventy-year-old man less cranky and less racist according to Stewart.
Stewart admonished the press to consider a new hobby, journalism. He told them they needed to get back their mojo. When Stephen Colbert asked if the press would heed his advice, Jon Stewart was sure they would.
